Final Random Thought: Things I want to do in the future?

Two weeks ago, I went to see Instant Family with my friends. It’s a movie about a couple (Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne!!) who go from having no kids to taking care of three foster kids at once and end up adopting them. It’s honestly one of the most heartwarming movies I have ever seen, I cried so much lol.  Anyway, after watching the movie I promised myself that I would foster kids when I’m older and it got me thinking about the things I want to do in the future.

I know a lot of us when we think about the future, the first thing that pops in our minds is college. That’s not what I’m going to focus on here because just thinking about the college process makes me overwhelmed, and I’ve been trying to block that thought out of my mind. I’m talking about more of a bucket list. I started my bucket list back in sixth grade and I’ve been adding on to it over the past couple of years and I have a total of 250 things and counting.

The first thing that I have written down is volunteering at a Syrian refugee camp. Learning about the horrors of the Syrian Civil War and learning about how many people were displaced and in camps in sixth grade had a huge impact on me. So, I want to have the chance to go and volunteer at a refugee camp someday (which might be happening this summer or next summer!!).  The next thing I have on my list is to create a non-profit organization. Making sure that I contribute and help out those that are less fortunate than me is a huge priority for me and so I feel like creating a non-profit of some sort would make it easier for me to achieve that at a larger scale. I’m still trying to figure out a name for it though.

A lot of my bucket list consists more of adventurous things, like swimming with sharks, skydiving, and don’t judge me for this one but riding on a giraffe and if I’m brave enough, sit on its head while it’s standing and experience what it’s like to be THAT tall. I also REALLY want to see a movie set and see what’s it like to be an actor in Hollywood. My ultimate goal is to travel to at least 100 countries, but we all know that costs A LOT of money, but I mean you never know.

So, when I’m going through a more of a stressful day, like today lol, I like to pull out of bucket list and look over what I hope to do one day. Hopefully sooner or later I’ll start crossing some of the things on my list out. :)

  1. It's awesome that you have so many goals set past just college. College is only a short period of our lives that we worry too much about, and you're definitely right that we should put some thought into what we want to do once we get out of college and what to do with the entire rest of our lives. Riding a giraffe seems hella cool as well.

  2. Bucket lists are great. I have one as well. I feel like bucket lists are great because they provide you with goals and help you look forward to the future. I also think it's good that you have so many plans after college. A lot of people get sucked up in the college process that when they enter/leave college, they don't truly know what they want to do in the future.

  3. Just imagining a bucket list with over 250 things on it makes me anxious. Where will you find the time do do all that stuff, especially if there are several things on there that would take as long as visiting 100 countries or volunteering in Syria, while running a vaguely described non-profit? Unless, of course, the first item on the list is to organize a calendar for accomplishing the rest of the items of the list. Then, it wouldn't be as daunting. It'd still take forever, though. Good luck.

  4. I have really enjoyed reading all of your blog post. I really like how you decided to close you blog with a post about all of the things that you want to do in the future. I think that it is really important to set goals and liked reading about what you want to do. I am still laughing about you crying in instant family but think its great that you want to adopt children. Great blog post.

  5. I love that you have aspirations in life besides college! Because, as we've all been told, it doesn;t define us. I also have a bucket list, but it's mostly places I want to visit. I'm excited because this summer I'm going horseback riding in Iceland, so I can cross a place off the list! I hope you also accomplish most (if not all) of the things on your list. On a somewhat unrelated note, is it safe for the giraffes to have someone sit on their head?

  6. I so appreciate that you didn't talk about college tbh, it can be overwhelming while there's so many other things to think about and enjoy before worrying about it (trust me, worry doesn't help in the process haha). A few things on my own bucket list include bike riding through all of Amsterdam, exploring Prague, and seeing the Northern Lights. I have lots of wanderlust, but also I do just want to live on a beach and own 159483 dogs, so I think my ideal future is looking pretty great right now. I wish you the best of luck in checking all of these off your bucket list - your heart shines in the things you want to do, don't let college define or limit you!! <3

  7. I love bucket lists! And yours, specifically. A lot of people want to make money, or have a prestigious job, but yours is infused with non-profits and adventure. It helps to think through what you want to do in this short life, we only have so much time after all, and its important to identify what you want so you don't wander through it all.
